At 16 my son is a High School Graduate!!

college | computers | doctors | psychologists | tests

My son John (Bubba) has been driving me nuts with his grades. He was an A-B student until he started high school. Since he’s been in high school his grades got bad really bad. I could have slept through these classes and brought home better grades. After getting his latest report card I just couldn’t take it anymore.

I called his doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital and asked them to set up an appointment with the same doctors and shrinks that checked him for ADHD. After he talked to all the people he had to see we decided to test him to see how far behind he was. The test results came back and he tested at a sophomore in college level. After a long discussion with the doctors and psychologists, we decided to let him try and test out of the rest of his high school years. I had to get an attorney friend to get a court order to allow him to take the test. He passed the test with flying colors!! He is now a high school graduate.

He will now be studying Computer and Information Systems Management at ACC starting fall 2008. We were looking at some paper work from one of the other schools.
(The doctors sent his test scores out and we are being bombarded with phone calls, letters and e mails from 10 different schools.) The entry wage for CISM’s is almost $75,000.00 a year. I want him to go to ACC to start and transfer to UT at some point. I’d like to keep him close to home if I can. The Learning Pad LLC right here in Austin is offing him a full scholarship, but I need to check them out more.

John has a leg up, because my other business is called CompuPower. I upgrade computers, build custom gaming machines and install small home networks. He has been helping me build computers for almost 2 years and now I can give him all the parts and programs and turn him loose. When he’s finished it’s done right and everything works.

Right now he is working with me fixing cars. That’s another thing he has a special talent for. I’d let him fix my car and that says a lot about his knowledge and do it right attitude. The only bad part of him working with me right now is I have to pay him!!! BUMMER!!

To say I’m proud don’t even come close. We made a deal this morning. I told him that since I taught him mechanics and computers he has to teach me to play guitar (something else he just has a natural talent for). My first lesson is tonight. I hope I don’t stampede the cows!!! LOL.

excellent!

How great! Let's face it, anyone who knows Bubba, knows he's smart! But, this is really wonderful! If it were any other kid I'd tell you to have your head examined, but he really isn't like other kids his age. Plus, I think being "in the world" will help him overcome that fear of not having a future. He won't be sitting in a classroom surrounded by kids out of his league anymore. He'll, instead, be too distracted by how exciting college is! There is so much he'll be exposed to that will challenge him and drive that spirit he seems to have been born with! Congrats Bubba!

This is wonderful news Txkjun...I am proud of Bubba, but I am also proud of YOU! He has a great shot at a great life and that's all due to you and your unequivocal love for him. Yay:)

What a cool relationship!!!!

I kinda got chill bumps reading this Txkjun... I think that kid of yours has got it going on and furthermore he's damn lucky to have you! You have talked about him before and I remember the pride being there in the past. That is fantastic. Kids raised well are hard to find these days. It's not the kids fault, it’s the parents don't give a damn and don't really care about them. Keep up the great job! Both of you!
