Why can I only edit the same blog entry once per 24 hours? Now my image for the book cover is not showing up. Now all you see is that annoying red X in a square, instead of a crying boy surrounded by pigeons. and I can't even fix the link until tomorrow, apparently.

Forget that, I'll just post it here instead:

Hopefully this will work. I really wish bloggerparty was as easy to use as diaryland. No offense, this is a great site. I'm just not very blog savvy I guess.

... something like that happened to us?

We (me, wife and kid No. 1, then 18 months) used to walk in a parklike spot near a pond in Australia. One that was home to lots of waterfowl, including Australia's signature black swans and a large flock of white domestic ducks. We would of course bring snacks, and as the ducks got to recognize us they would come running.

Baby would insist on going, and loved watching the spectacle. Until the day the ducks practically jumped into her stroller, trying to steal her bottle of apple juice and generally making nuisances of themselves. Needless to say, she was unhappy. And she never got out of her pram.

Also needless to say, we got her and us out of there pronto. And we changed our routine.

Only in Australia have we encountered ducks like that. We never quite figured out what it was about Oz that led to wild wildlife, but anyplace where the ants are two inches long and rear up to bite you like King Kong is not a place to take lightly.
