Are YOUR Blogs Being Monitored by The Dept of Homeland Security??

With the new Department of Homeland Security's Policies, is it feasible to think that they are not only tapping phone call and emails, but blogs as well?

Is it really safe to write about anything? Will you draw attention for anti-Bush comments, or each time you mention Al-Queda?
Try typing in the name of our nation's leader and anything related to his demise. Do you think you would draw attention then? How do we know who is reading your blog?

If they are being monitored, what is the criteria to lift a "red flag?" Are we considered activists? Are we being placed on a list of "dissidents?"

Can we say whatever is on our minds in our blogs, or do we risk retribution if we say the wrong thing? Do we really have freedom of speech? Will your blog be used against you in a court of law to imply you are some terrorist threat to the nation, no questions will be asked if the Prez says so.

I feel like I should have the freedom to write what I am compelled to, this freedom is impeded by threat of retribution for typing what is on your mind.

If we are being monitored, why? Can we really be judged by the content we right? Is that fair? After all writings are just thoughts and are thoughts really policeable?

Your liberal bias is showing!

First, you assume facts not in evidence: our phones and emails are being tapped. Show me the beef.

Then, I'd be more concerned about writing disparaging remarks about Scientology, Illegal Aliens and Islamo Fascists. The Scientologists are a force to be feared, the Illegal Alien forces are coming into their own and like to threaten and coerce to achieve their ends, and we all know about the terrorists, they want to kill us even if we don't bad mouth them.

Regards,
Wolfgang

"Can we really be judged by the content we right?"

Unless you live in some dictatorship like China, Cuba or Venezuela my guess is that you're probably free to write whatever you like. The only impediment being one's own paranoia..

With new laws concerning terrorists...

and the ambiguity of the term terrorist, leaves it open for the government to call anyone a terrorist and apply the new laws and policies to anyone, you know, no access lawyer unless you are going to to plead guilty, no habius corpus, no speedy trial, water torture, belly slapping, sleep deprivation, sensory deprivation, psychological warfare, little things like that.

As long as the government is telling the public you are a terrorist, you are a terrorist.

"You are either with us or on the side of the terrorists"

Yes, those poor oppressed terrorists, they are only trying to do their jobs with poor pay and inadequate equipment.

I was refering more to american citizens who are only guilty of blogging, but whose content on the "internets" is considered somehow threatening to Dubya. - "You are either with us or on the side of the terrorists."

LOL, "Fool me once..."

Geminian you are not alone

in feeling somewhat paranoid at all of the unrestricted information that can and will be gathered by our government. One more piece of the paranoia puzzle that also fits this picture is the ability of google to pinpoint our exact home address and sites on the internet who sell our information from something as common as cell phone records and personal information(this was aired on Abc news a couple of nights ago) so it is not only a liberal thing to fear it should strike all Americans of any or no party affiliation with some small amount of uneasiness as to the ease you could be labeled a terrorist or unpatriotic or heaven forbid a communist and a terrorist.

The "Mc Carthy" trial of old should bring some of these ghosts of administrations past to our remembrance. All the laws governing the presidential war powers that congress so readily passed is another thing to consider. Me I'm going to remain in paranoiaville until the year 2008 and a few months.

And of course our blogs are being monitored by big Bushy and company lucky for us they can't control our thoughts yet(or can they?). LOL!~2catdave

Of course we are being monitored

Times have changed and so has the constitution. It isn't what it used to be.

I'm not too sure how

I'm not too sure how "policeable" blogs are. There was a recent story about a guy in California who maintained a blog about where to find little girls and the best places to spy on kids and all kinds of other sick perverted pedophilia stuff and the authorities had no recourse. He could continue to write what he wanted for other pedophiles and he continues to do so.

Be more concerned about downloading a song from the internet. When you have actual people that have been arrested for the blogs they post, then I'd start worrying. Until then, I think the government has bigger problems to deal with.

Actually, bdwick,...

his blog was shut down by his host, and at this point he doesn't have anyone else who picked it up. The police did arrest him and charged him with some kind of misdemeanor, but that was about it. So, he's not online for a short time at least.

Reviews of Everything, reviews and opinions of, well, almost anything!

Ok, well I missed the story

Ok, well I missed the story where he got shut down. I know he got ran out of town and he's a sick freak. But the point is...he wasn't arrested because of what he wrote on his blogs and I've yet to read a story where someone was arrested because of their blog.
