Are You A College Dropout?

Did you drop out of school at a young age, or get so bogged down with required classes when you did go to college that you missed out on taking a lot of things you would really have enjoyed. I know I did.

A couple of years after I graduated, I enrolled in a correspondence course called, Children’s Literature, at a college about 40 miles from my home. I had majored in English for Secondary Schools, but was really interested in children’s books because of my own two small children at home. At that time, I was able to get credit toward my master’s degree for the correspondence course. Unfortunately, that college no longer offers correspondence courses for academic credit due to financial restraints.

Today I saw an online press release describing a complete online university. That is something that I could never, in my wildest dreams, have imagined. Just think, mothers with small children, sitting at home, rocking their babies to sleep while earning their college degrees. Young men with full-time jobs spending a few hours online each evening and on week-ends to earn their college degrees. Aged grandmothers and grandfathers who could never have afforded to attend college in their younger year, now pursuing college degrees in every field imaginable. It just seems like one of the greatest ideas of all time to me.
