Last week, we heard that the CIA has been burning tapes of the things they do, including interrogations and the like. Congress went into uproar mode, the media went crazy, and that man who's our president asked Congress to back off. Earlier today, that same man decided he didn't want to talk about the "scandal".
Okay, maybe I'm missing something here. This is the CIA after all; I wasn't surprised that they've burned or destroyed tapes. Truthfully, what I'm most surprised at is that the rest of us have had it confirmed that they had the tapes in the first place.
Isn't this supposed to be the most clandestine group in our government, the one that's not supposed to work on American soil, and therefore really doesn't have to subscribe to American rule, so to speak? Aren't these the same people who tried to help overthrow the Cuban, Nicaraguan, and Iraqi governments, the same ones who helped bin Laden overcome the Soviets?
Secret jails; come on, who didn't suspect the CIA had secret jails? Secret torture; you're putting me on, right? This is the group our country has relied on to promote our interests; notice I'm not using the word "support". Supporting our interests is the job of ambassadors; the CIA is supposed to do the dirty work. That's why there was so much uproar years back when the White House (yeah, I know, they deny it) outed the one CIA agent; they pretty much put a bullseye on her head, they know it.
Oh yeah; has everyone forgotten just who's father used to head the CIA for awhile? Course, that's always a misnomer, because the members of the CIA consider that a civilian post, so right now I'm not really sure who's actually in charge. Whoever it is, though, probably needs to be fired; seems there are no real secrets with the CIA anymore.
Now, let's hope they don't show up at my door; that is, unless they bring cookies!
