The latest reports that are coming in suggest that sea ice in Artic Ocean did not grow at its normal rate. If the spring this year is not unusually cold, the sea ice loss will be one of the biggest ever recorded. The ice retreat that was measured in September 2005 is said to be the biggest ever recorded. But already scientists fear that this year will over take it. By the third week of March, Artic begins its six months of daylight. During this time, ice melts into water at a great pace.
Global warming and its perpetrators we humans are the main culprits. The build up of carbon dioxide and the green house effect that is taking place can lead to total loss of ice in the Artic. Studies have revealed that ozone, one of the greenhouse gases, is responsible for the warming effect in the Artic. Carbon dioxide, a byproduct of human activities, is another major reason for the warming of Artic.
Knowingly or unknowingly we humans are contributing to our downfall. The climate changes that are taking place around as directly linked to the global warming. If seas continue to increase due to the melting of ice, many of the islands and coastal areas will be submerged and lost forever. Days are not far when some of our Hollywood science fiction flicks becomes a reality.
