Anti-gay American church ordered to pay damages for cheering the death of a fallen hero...

A good site to write this little story:
It has been reported that an anti-gay American church has been ordered to pay US$10 million in damages to the relatives of a fallen American marine after church members cheered his death at his funeral.
The federal jury in Baltimore determined that the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, and three of its principals invaded the privacy of the dead man's family and inflicted emotional stress at his funeral.
Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder died in combat in Iraq in March 2006.
He didn't drown in some obscure gay sauna in San Francisco - he was killed in combat in Iraq.
In any case his bereaved father testified that his late son was not gay anyway, but this particular church ( perhaps its the Church of Satan I have written about)has targeted the military as a symbol of America's tolerance towards gays.
Church members said the soldier's death was punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality. Give me breath, America, if this is an example of your country's religion?
All I can say personally is that it is not the God I know, if of course this was true. Jesus Christ would have condemned that church and its members outright!

May they get crabs from the toilet seat!!! It sure as hell won't happen from anything fun!
Have a great day HR....

Westboro
is well known around these parts. Word is, they are being sued here too. Also, I read that the amount is more like 11M. The problem is, they are never going to be able to collect on it. This "church" is really a group of about 70-100 people, mostly from within one family, who support their "church" from their own finances. Most of them have experience as lawyers (not that they know a thing about the law), but unless I'm mistaken, they don't actually have a practice anywhere.
In every other part of the world (including most of the US), this is called a cult or a compound. And you'll have to excuse me for hoping the whole lot of them drink koolaid soon.
(And not to piss off anyone from Kansas, but this isn't the first example of dumbass-adry that's come out of that state. I wish to god somebody would get on with an amendment to kick them and Texas out of the union, already. Note to Oklahomans- you're right in the middle, and with the stupid assholes you keep electing, you're next!!)
Okay. Is there anyone else I haven't pissed off yet? Anyone?? Please raise your hands, and I'll be happy to insult you as well. ;) :D

One of the problems intricate is
it really has nothing to do with Kansas per say, it is more of the fact that this Phelps family-- most of them are attorneys. They know full well what their constitutional rights are and they take complete and total advantage of this to get to stand on their protesting soapboxes. They know exactly how far they can push things legally. We need politcal people to be willing to challenge them and start getting some things changed. I believe this is everywhere also, not just a couple of states. This Phelps family and it's church members travel all over the country doing this. And there is nothing that anyone will do , because it will violate their constitutional rights- and I know this is crap. They are the biggest idiots I have ever witnessed.
They are appealing this ruling and no judge will ever overturn it, so mabey if more people do sue them, mabey, and it is a slim mabey, they will back off some.
What is sad about this to me, is not only do these families with loved ones they have to bury, have to endure all of the hatred at the funerals, but this church has very young children out there holding the picket signs and shouting the same hatefull crap. These kids, some being as young as 7 and 8 years old,are being brainwashed into thinking that this is truth because they are being taught this.
I remember when we had a service man from my town a couple years ago get killed in Iraq and they came out here with their picket signs. There is a group of bikers that are mostley vets and they will make a wall between the funeral service and the protesters. They too try to travel around the country where ever they hear about the Phelps clan going, and they try to intervene between it all on behalf of the families.
All I can say is when the day comes to answer for it all, there will be nothing to save their souls.
I know, Ammorton.
I'm just mostly being a butthead. (Although I still think it's about time to kick a state out, just to show the others that we mean business- lol.)
You're absolutely right. They push as far as they can, and they are doing it mostly to provoke, and also to draw like-minded hate mongers to their flock. Shirley Phelps-Roper was arrested in Nebraska for "contributing to the delinquency of a minor". We'll see how that turns out.
Let me be very honest. I don't give a damn how evil a person has been on Earth. That person deserves a funeral free from protest. That, above any other right, should be sacred and irrevocable. Even for Fred Phelps, a man who I despise and who deserves the least amount of sympathy.

I'm glad this happened, Hutts,...
because these idiots didn't have the common sense to know that they shouldn't have been doing this type of thing to begin with, so if they have to pay big money to learn a lesson, then so be it.

Exactly, Hutt!
I've only wished to be near when this type of hideous crap was going on! But, I've seen it on the news and thankfully, there have been occasion when they get "assualted" right back by people who see their signs and hatred. No, mate, some of us have no tolerance for this. Sadly, too many in politics do!

Evil from..
religion in this case.

This is exactly WHY this administartion and
Sassys
it's "tolerant" leader need to go...on the one hand this young man is dead due to an illegal war...then his family has to put up with the other fanatics and morons that climb out of the woodwork to "Wave their flag"
I feel sorry for this poor family and hope that the Phelps get their cummuponce sooner than later. UGH!
Shocking state of affairs...
but I'm sure decent Americans will win in the end. Interesting side issue; just how do you kick a state out of the union?
Kiwi Riverman
LOL Well make me president! I would figure it out:)
Sassys
Most decent Americans do win...People all over the world once used to admire us,we tend to be open minded and well read...but thanks to the Bush administration that perception has been shattered. This is why people like the Phelps feel able to do such atrocious things...because they know deep down that our "leader" is actually one of them.
the problem, sassy
if you were elected into office, the evil doers already there wouldn't need to shoot you! The only thing worse than the sick minds in government, is the average person's conditioning to believe that someone with good intentions is the "real" enemy! I swear, every time I see Iraq on the news I feel like we have become that society in 1984. I always think to the end of the book where he's sitting in the cafe, drinking a glass of gin with clove, and crying over the lastest battle won in thier never ending war! The only difference is our leaders aren't giving out the cheap, oily gin to the masses! WE have to stay sober through it!

Asnwering this seriously,...
One can't kick a state out of the union; we don't work that way. What happens is, if a state really got out of control, the president would just send in the national guard and take over. However, with ouy system, and most states having term limits for the highest offices, they'd get turned over soon enough.
