Anthropology and Christianity

I was working in San Francisco completing a construction project; one day while sitting at “Mel’s Drive in"' having lunch A lady sitting beside me was reading A book I didn’t recognize, so I asked what it was.
She stated it was preparatory to getting into university where she was studying for her doctorate.
I said “great, may I ask what you are studying?”
She said “Theology”.
“Interesting, the Gnostic material has quite some fascinating material”, I said.
“I have heard about it but don’t now very much about them” she said.
I said”; well, they were the only Christians who had their Gospels completed before Emperor Constantine of the fourth century” I said.
She replied “there isn’t anyone who knows when the Christian Gospels were completed”.
“True” I said, “the sixteenth or seventeenth century would be a good guess”.
“Sounds like you are interested in theology also” she said.
“I do have some knowledge of the subject” I replied. “On what is Christianity based?” I continued.
“What do you mean” she replied.
“What does the Christian faith depend on”? I reiterated.
“Judaism” she stated.
“True I said, “ and Judaism was founded by Abraham who supposedly lived about 2000 BC, rode Camels which were domesticated about 1000 BC traded his wife to the King of Gerar…”
“Judaism is not based on accurate history” she interrupted.
“Correct” I said, yet you people teach your followers that they should base their lives on unreliable information which has nothing to do with history and’….
“It has also to do with anthropology and other aspect of the humanities” she again interrupted.
“Exactly” I said, “and since Children are born to fit in with whatever society they are born into they adopt the beliefs and lifestyle of their society. When they are born to a society where they are taught they are sinners and evil that is how they will grow up!”
At this time the lady gets up and states; “Its been nice talking to you sir, there is as yet no agreement on the effect of teaching children thay are sinners”. And she heads for the cash register visibly disgruntled.
There may not be universal agreement on the harms caused by the teaching of Christianity, the only obstacle to removing this impediment to civilization is the stumbling block known as “Christianity”!
