Another Splogger/Spammer Question For Admin

life on mars | No Solution to Immigration

Greetings Mr (Miss?) Admin,

Just a quick question about these people who keep posting the plagiarized or spam stuff.

I've noticed that you are very quick at eliminating the stuff when you're alerted to it by flagging, and that's really appreciated. However, it seems as though these weasels just continue posting newer and newer stuff, which means they're not learning the lesson, or someone's not telling them the lesson. One guy, whose name I won't mention but will say the name begins with "vs", has even tried to get around it by immediately posting a comment to his own posts, and it's just a shorter version of the post.

Do any of these people get contacted, or eliminated in some way? It seems that, in conversations with some "real" bloggers, that the reason there's so little participation is that these people pop in, post upwards of 10 to 15 posts, and push everyone else off the recent blog post lists. Even when you eliminate a post, their topic stays, so many folks don't realize that you're erased the offending posts.

Anyway, that's my question, and concern, and I'm glad to have the forum to mention it. I like the look of the site, and would really like to at least make it a place where folks not only post original content, but have the opportunity for their posts to be seen, and possibly commented on, by others. Thanks.

Hi - its Mrs by the way:)

Thanks for your concerns and for wanting to make Bloggerparty a better place for the real bloggers.

We do terminate accounts for spamming and plagiarism but unfortunately they often leave it a few days then appear to come back and start all over again with a new account.

Flagging posts is the best form of attack against these people - it takes very few flags for a post to be automatically disabled.

Thanks

Glad to hear from you,...

and, on this front, just asking, but do they re-register with the same email address? I know some of these guys have multiples, which definitely would make it difficult.

I just can't understand why they do it. I mean, they can't honestly believe that, in a blog, writing all this junk is really going to help them all that much. If they had a webpage and put all this stuff on it, then optimized it to pull traffic, maybe, but in a blog? It's either boring or meaningless.

Thanks for responding, and I'll remember the "Mrs". lol

Glad to see Admin active

against these sploggers etc. I really wonder what thrill they get out of it. Certainly doesn't make them popular.

What I'm wondering is why the posts aren't completely

wiped off the page when they get enough flags? Those spaces are still filled and legitimate posts - that the bloggers put some real effort into - are still pushed way down in the pages.

I Too Have A Question For SPLOGGERS and Admin.

Sassys
Do these theives really make ANY kind of money when they do this? Are they just a bunch of punks that can't read or write and therefore have the need to steal from others? I say we take them on and send them packing...we have done it before and we KNOW we are smarter than they are, so lets see if we can't just eliminate them! I HATE THEM! I also do believe it's in Admins best interest to get rid of them, if for nothing else than the integrity and respectability of this site, no?

I think, Miss Sassys,...

that these people probably search on terms to see what might pay big, then they go out and steal from someone else and post this stuff, hoping that someone will be interested in it and click on their AdSense ads. Thing is, that just doesn't work in blogs, but they're thinking it's less likely that someone will figure out that it's copyright infringement here than in creating their own website and posting this mess there. And, by faking a name, it's somewhat safer also, especially since, I'm betting, most of the email addresses are fakes.

Well then Catfish

Sassys
If WE can look up these morons stuff why the hell can't Admin do it? Why is it our job? If this were my site I would go out of my way to get rid of the scum...ah well! To say "just click on the splog button" is ridiculous, TAKE CARE OF YOUR BLOGGERS! That should be the way this site is run...unless of course for some odd reason Admin actually makes money from all the Splogging? Nah!

Catfish's picture

It's an interesting premise, Sassys,...

except it presupposes that Admin has nothing else to do except sit home all day long looking at all the posts that every single person puts here. No, it's not our job to do it, but if we don't help, then we deal with whatever it is we deal with.

Well I guess that's true Catfish

Sassys
It does get a little tedious to always get the same response though!

I think there are different levels,...

of knowledge when it comes to this sort of thing. For instance, you know I create websites, and I know how to create forms for people to send messages, or for people to sign up for things. However, lately they're getting lots of spam, and I have no idea how to set up the form so that we won't get that spam. I know how to track where an initial email came from, but if it got routed through another source I have no idea how to track that down. So, there you go.
