Another Senior Moment

Elginbrod's picture

I recently jumped into the universe of Blog. And submitted an epitaph of sorts. It was: "A not so senior moment." An unimportant observation. Yet I am finding out much about blogs in having made one. I was amazed by how the search engine handled senior, senior moment. Pages and pages of referrals came up, beyond my patience to look at all of them.

I did not expect that. And then my new Comcast offered TV shows on the computer, but almost all of the programs were of no interest to me. Except for "Have Gun Will Travel." Palladin used to be the meanest cowboy on TV, or anywhere else for that matter. What a senior moment of little interest and should not appear on modern electronic media.

The music, the grainy black and white picture--a cowboy in all black that tricked his adversary, pulling a derringer from his belt. I passed up the "Family Guy", "Friends" and a bunch of new movies to go back to what I used to watch sitting cross-legged on a coil rug, and it came in on rabbit ears!

Now I have a whole bunch of episodes at my command. I can stop the action or watch it over again. Especially helpful when I want to go to the bathroom or get a coffee. What a strange mix of old and new technology, like listening to internet radio. How about radio classics on the internet? that certainly is a senior moment.

It was great being back in that moment. Mom was making supper and Dad was reading the paper and watching the program over the top of the page. I knew what tomorrow would be like, just like I knew the good guy would win in the end. Even Pallidin would work for free when principle was involved.

The longer I can linger in that moment, the happier I am.

I have "senior" moments all the time...like "Where the hell is the toilet paper?" I am not THAT old, but I do have my moments...sometimes I pretend to be confused, just to piss people off! There are some perks after all:D!

"Senior"

My father is 81 and says he waited a long time to be a grouchy old man. He is giving me great perspective. He is frustrated with the contemporary culture, but for different reasons than I am. With all that is going on I think there will be a Renaissance of sorts for
serious Western values. By that I mean Plato, Socrates, Aristotle type critical thinking and self discipline. We seem to be slipping into a morass of cheap thrills at everybody's expense. There is plenty of material for this idea and most of it in public.

My difficulty is that years in the factory, construction site and engine room has made me hard of hearing. My confusion is often real because I can't hear you. My father retired from almost the same regime. When we are together in the yard the neighbors must think we are arguing, and occasionally we do that as well.

Just recently we apprehended an intruder in our house, my father held the man at gunpoint until the police arrived. So our loud discourse and penchant for firearms has made us the talk of the neighborhood!
