Another February Passing: Dale Earnhardt, 2-18-2001

Anna Nicole Smith's sudden death in the same geographic area as NASCAR racecar driver Dale Earnhardt's (Central Florida) reminded me of how fragile we are as human beings and how quickly our status as conscious entities can change states, to whatever the alternative to our existance is. (Or is not, depending on your beliefs, or non-beliefs as the case may be.)
In the aftermath of Dale Earnhardts death on the last turn of the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 Mile Race the sanctioning body, NASCAR, had it's executives thinking of ways to conserve it's most valuable resource, the drivers (after all, racecars are easily replaced.)

Writing about NASCAR is taking more time and space than we have here at bloggerparty, so we are dedicating a channel:

I didn't want to, but

I have to say something here. What I am about to say will make me sound like an asshole. However, I would rather tell the truth and sound like an asshole than tell a lie and sound like a saint. The two people you've mentioned here offered nothing, if little, to our society as a whole.

The one died while speeding around an oil slick track. I'm sorry, but that's a consequence you take in that profession (if you can call it that). The other died from a drug overdose, which wasn't that surprising if you happened to catch any of the antics leading up to her death.

Yes, it is sad that two people died. Should the world stop and remember them? No. One offered nothing more than wholesale nascar t-shirts at Wal-Mart and the other offered hopes of being thin if you took the same over-the-counter pills as her.

These two offered nothing to our society except for fleeting entertainment to the slack-jawed, slopping forehead, morons that they catered to.

Again, I know I sound like an asshole, but at least I am being honest here.

Sorry...

Come and see what I'm rambling about now
