Anderson Cooper: A Problematic Crush
Anderson Cooper is my mental flavor of the moment, so much so that I’m even reading the amorous tell-all his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, wrote just to find out about the woman who raised him. But something’s bothering my innocuous imaginings.
I’ve read much about him possibly being a ‘friend of Bob’s’ (as in Neil and Bob) which is enough to wilt any straight girl’s fantasy but here’s the thing. Ultimately, I don’t care whether he’s gay or straight. However, Andy—as I like to call him—refuses to comment on the subject. This is where the problem comes in for me.
He says he doesn’t comment on his personal life but he writes about his brother’s suicide and his mother’s cunnilingus so that excuse is pretty much cut off at the knees.
He also says that he doesn’t want the story to be about him; instead he just wants to be one who tells the story. That’s a noble and common aim for a journalist, so I can accept that. Except that his not talking about it IS a story.
In my obsessive digging to learn more about this lovely man, I also discovered that he said that he doesn’t want to be lumped into any groups. My first thought was, “Dude you’re a Vanderbilt. And you went to Yale. C’mon.

My Vote on Anderson Cooper
Hopefully you find relief from your crush soon (or just enjoy the ride). I feel exactly the opposite about Anderson Cooper. I change the channel when he is on CNN. He reminds me of someone I cannot abide and so it transfers to poor Anderson. Cannot abide him either.
My vote, gay. And that is not why I hate him. In fact, that tidbit of info makes me re-think hating him; makes him different enough from the transference guy I find narcissistic. I do think if he were OUT he would not be CNN's golden boy for long. Being in the closet is smart for his career, but still a sad commentary on our culture.
thanks for your vote
Shannon, thanks for voting.
I understand when famous people remind you of people you've known--and really rather never be reminded of again. I have much compassion for you. :)
I'm definitely more of an enjoy the ride kind of crusher and probably when it's over I'll think to myself, "He definitely likes boys as much as I do."
Thanks for understanding my harmless fun.
