Ancient was Two Decades Ago

I was reading THIS and I felt that IF I lived 20 years ago, everything would seem ancient. While I type, I hear the Cicada ringtone from my Nokia which means I have a text message. I worry that I never miss a call or a text message so I have my phone near my computer near my mouse. I also have an afterthought- I remember when mouse meant a RAT , RAM was a Bilical animal, and hard disk drive? (If you said that you have a a huge Hard disk drive 20 years ago, it could be an obscene thing to say IF you were a guy)Then, Gigabytes would probably mean BIG bites on the burger and "gigs" would mean gigs which is something like a comedy show.
Back to my mobile phone, it is GSM and I have dual SIMs which means I can have two service providers at the same time. It also means that I have two phone numbers on my mobile because I have two SIM cards. My ringtones are polyphonic! Sometimes I download them from the net and choose POLY ( I wonder what that meant years ago?) Why do I do such things? Because it's hip to have the sound of bugs instead of a ringing tone. Remember when there was only ONE type of ringtone? The one that really rings?
Is life any better now or what? Heck, I just got the lastestjoke on my cellphone and later, I'll probably subscribe using my mobile to get the latest CNN News and Hollywood gossips!

20 years ago there were cellular phones. Larger, more expensive, with fewer bells and whistles than today, but they existed, my father had one, I remember it well. 20 years ago if you bought the right kind of computer you could have a mouse, too. Take a look at when Xerox invented the mouse. Or, when the Apple Lisa or Macintosh came out. Believe it or not, RAM and hard disk drives have been around for quite a bit more than 20 years. Even PCs are over 30 if you choose the right date to count from. Believe it or not, we even had more than just mono sound before you were born. Imagine that.

WE even have pirated dvds in the mall... !!! whatta great place!!!

Yeah, I remember computers 20 years ago. Cell phones too. We had a computer in our home then, but not a cell phone. In fact, at a time when computers were still considered a luxury item, we had two. One was brand new, state-of-the-art 486, and my parents could have bought some cars for the price they paid. The other was already ridiculously outdated, and my dad rigged an internal drive to run externally.

Believe it or not, we even had internet, or something very similar. It was called Prodigy, and we could visit message boards, play games with other people worldwide, or shop at a few stores. Sometime after the internet became popular, AOL became much more widely used, and Prodigy sort of disappeared. I'm sure it still exists, but it's not nearly as popular as it was.

And no, you wouldn't be arrested for bragging about the size of your disk drive. But you would get a lot of blank stares until you said, "You know, computers..."

I like this... but would the blank stares mean "he's crazy?". "he's on drugs?" what do you think?

It was more along the lines of someone stood in front of a group of average middle schoolers and started speaking Shakespeare without any warning. One of those, "I know I should know what you're talking about, but I don't" kind of looks. Once you clue them in, they get in instant look of recognition and start nodding. They couldn't imagine that anyone actually had a computer sitting in their house, let alone know how to program it. lol
