An obscure love

The problem with anime in America is that it is still very much a Niche market. Most of the shows and games that I love, no one else has heard of. There was a recent anime awards show, with winners and nominees being in mainstream titles such as Full Metal Alchemist, Zatch Bel, Naruto, Bleach, Hellsing, FLCL, Samurai Champloo, Inuyasha, Tenchi, Kenshin, and Ghost in the shell. There's nothing wrong with these titles per say, but they're hardly the end all be all of anime.

Why is it that 90% of those shows are from the cartoon network? I was surprised to see Gravitation on there as well as Death Note. And somewhat surprised that Fruits Basket won best manga when it was up against Bleach and Naruto which are seemingly more popular.

The two largest what the heck moments for me, concerning the awards are the fact that advent children won "best anime feature." (IT'S NOT EVEN AN ANIME) Just because it's a film from japan does not mean it's an anime -.-. Are people friggin retarded or what?

The other thing I have to say WTF to is the 8th pokemon movie being nominated for best anime. What the HECK is that even doing on the list? No I have not seen it, I actually love the pokemon videogames. But there is NO WAY that it even deserves a nomination. The Pokemon anime is weak, and the dub is particularily bad and annoying. And after EIGHT movies, hasn't everything been done... to death by now?

I honestly havent seen enough to nominate 5

But that's the general idea. I sure as heck would not have POKEMON on my list -.-

That's just a disgrace to TRUE anime fans everywhere. And I am SO beyond sick of hearing about bleach and naruto. both are mediocre series at best and are like this generation's DBZ in terms of being overhyped, and also long winded/long running series. Honestly after 500 episodes, do you need more? There comes a time when it gets so drawn out and the plot line becomes dry and contrived. Well most of these supposed "experts" at this awards show obviously wouldn't know good anime if it bit them on the bum.
