An Early Baby Throws a Wrench in the Works

As I mentioned in a previous post, I got this cool ring after the recent birth of my daughter. It contains the birthstones of my husband, myself, and the two kids.

My daughter was due to be born on November 7th, but the doctor thought it best to induce her early. He surprised me with this idea on my Thursday visit and scheduled the induction for the following Monday, October 30th.

Notice the difference in months, which means a difference in birthstones.

This explained my husband's complete shock and rather unwelcoming response when I called him and said, "Hey, wanna have a baby on October 30th?" It meant he had to totally scramble and get the ring back to the jeweler to have the citrine removed and the pink tourmaline inserted. The jeweler had to ship in the tourmaline. It took both of my parents' help to get it done, and a few lies to me as well ("I've got to go out and buy printer paper for work." "At 8 o'clock at night? Are you serious??" "Yes. Yes I am.").

I think this story makes my ring my favorite present ever.
