Carly Smithson kicks ass. She looks kind of like Amy Lee, which I like (I could do without the distraction of the sleeve tattoo, but whatever). She sung the crap out of Heart's Crazy on You on Wednesday night's American Idol. She seems nice. So I like her.

I’ve pretty much avoided the controversy surrounding Carly. She’s had a record deal before (as Carly Hennessy) and it failed, should she be allowed to be on American Idol, yada yada yada. I don’t have time for that crap. If the rules allow for her to be there, and clearly they do, then so be it. She’s apparently not the first to have this kind of experience and I seriously doubt she'll be the last.

I googled her in an attempt to spell her name right, and I found a video of a song she did back in 2000. It’s called I’m Gonna Blow Your Mind.

In a nutshell, that song SUCKS.

If that’s the kind of music she’s going to put out if she wins, vote her off now. Good grief. That was so craptacular I had to turn it off mid-video. The world does not need more bubblegum pop. With her goth looks, she can NOT sound like Britney Spears. It’s just wrong.

Please, Carly, continue to shine on American Idol, but don’t do it Britney Spears style. I won’t waste my time hitting redial for that.
