Amazon.com Introduces “Plogs

While blogging is by no means a brand new concept, it took a while for some of us (myself included) to catch on. Now, Amazon.com is extending the blog concept to and assigning each customer a “plog (Wow, is it me or are some of these tech words getting rather ugly?).

The service is called Amazon Connect, and it delivers posts from authors to Amazon customers. According to Amazon.com, customers will only receive posts from an author whose book they have bought or from ones they subscribe to. These posts will be displayed in reverse chronological order (like regular blogs) in each customer's personal blog or “plog (cringe). The customer has the option of responding to these posts, and others can read the comments.

All right, the word sounds a little funny (but then so did blog at first, and we're used to that), but the concept is pretty nice. There have been a number of times I've read a book I really enjoyed and wanted to give feedback to the author, and this is definitely an efficient way to do it, assuming your favorite author has his/her own plog.

Funny name, but I just checked out the website and it actually seems fairly cool. That is, if authors actually participate in the program.

I'd like to think the authors would participate, especially first time authors. It could be a great promotional tool for them if used properly.
