Amazing Race

If you're not into 'reality' TV shows, I would suggest at least giving this show a shot. If you don't like the premise of the show, at least it can give you some insight on the next place(s) you'd want to travel on your next vacation.

I did not watch this program when it first aired so I missed a couple seasons. I only tuned in because I was talking to a friend who was all excited to see next week's episode. The appeal of jet-setting from one unknown place to another and seeing glimpses of each place did sound interesting. Of course, the human behavior and reactions to stress, competition and reading maps also make Amazing Race worth watching.

Although the racers visit places briefly, during that particular episode, you can see and even appreciate what you have or, realize what you are missing out on. You'll even get a quick history lesson here and there.

In one season, the racers went to Egypt. Normally, when I think about vacation, I'm thinking white sand and beautiful aquamarine warm water. However, after watching that one episode, it reminded that before my time is up, I'd want to visit Egypt to see the great Pyramids.

In another, they went to Africa. Imagine going on a safari ride and having the chance to feed lions and seeing the different wildlife. To me, a trip to Africa seems worth taking.

I still remember the one episode that racers went to Xi'an to see the Terra Cotta Warriors and Shanghai to the Bund and Peace Hotel. When I went to Shanghai, I immediately recognized the Peace Hotel along Nanjing Road. This seems funny but this recognition gave me some comfort of familiarity in an unknown place far from home.

I was so excited to see all the locks along the chains up the mountain. The racers had this task of finding the correct lock to unlock with a key they had been given. Even my friend I mentioned earlier, immediately recognized the locks in my pictures.

Having watched a couple of seasons, it's piqued my sense of adventure and wanting to experience different cultures, lifestyles and cuisine.
