It seems that lately all I talk about are issues related to race. I was thinking that maybe it was my fault that I'm in this, well, rut, but then I realize it's not me.
Most of the news stories lately seem to be about race; either that, or it's what my eyes are drawn to. For instance, in yesterdays newspaper, there was a poll showing that blacks favor Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron's home run record by 74% to 23% of whites, along with some other factors; and, of course, I'm pulling for Bonds, my favorite baseball player of the last 15 years.
Then there was this story on black women and how they're not given credit for either beauty or intelligence, and how it's not only white people who seem to be giving them issues but black men portraying big black women in buffoonish situations.
Then in the last week there was the study that came from some university saying that white referees were more likely to call fouls on black basketball players than white basketball players, and the NBA couldn't have disagreed quick enough, which kind of figures (I have mixed thoughts on this one), and the story on 60 Minutes last week talking about how people living in black communities wouldn't even think about talking to the police when crime is committed because of the "no snitching" principle.
I mean really, it's all over the place. There are more stories, but I think I've made my point. Here I was, thinking that I might just be keyed on certain things going on, and it's really the media that's finally taking the time to write about it, and I seem to be a willing audience for it.
Nope, not my fault!
