Aldo Nova "Fantasy"
Originally born Aldo Caporuscio, Canadian musician Aldo Nova was self-taught, becoming proficient enough on guitar and keyboards to become a popular draw in the clubs in his hometown of Montreal. Following a stint performing as George Harrison in the cast of "Beatlemania," Nova parlayed an after-hours job as a studio engineer into demos that led to a record deal in 1982.
In the spring of 1982, Nova released his self-titled debut album which would prove to be a harbinger of the success of pop-metal on radio and video later in the decade. Blending synthesizers, scorching guitar, and an infectious chorus, (as well as benefiting from early MTV play) the album's first single "Fantasy" quickly caught listeners attention.
Breaking out at album rock radio, where "Fantasy" would peak at #3, the song entered the US Top 40 in May. During a two-month stay, "Fantasy" would climb as high as #23 and help Nova's debut album into the Top Ten on the album chart. It would prove to be his lone Top 40 hit. Nova would write and produce for other acts, including Blue Oyster Cult, and release two more albums during the '80s to little fanfare or attention. Ironically, he would make a minor comeback in the early '90s with the help of another record studio employee turned musician, Jon Bon Jovi.
