I think my wife and I are cursed as it pertains to our luggage, airports, and the airlines.
As I write this, I'm sitting in yet another hotel room where my luggage didn't show up with me. The lady at baggage claim said it was still in NYC, at LaGuardia, and said they're notorious for losing people's luggage.
Well, they're obviously not alone, and I'm not even sure if it's the airport. It's possibly the different airlines, since today I flew US Air, but the last time my luggage was lost I started on Northwest, transferred to American Airlines, then took an off brand puddle jumper to my final destination.
And the time before that,... well, the time before that they didn't lose my luggage,... they shredded it! I mean, I'd bought a brand new piece of luggage, lovely and pristine, and when it showed up at my destination that bad boy looked like it had grown up in the ghetto. It was tagged by so much chalk that it looked like graffiti; the handle bar that helps you pick up your luggage had been totally snapped off; and a couple of the rivets were gone, with only holes left. Oh yeah, the couple of cut marks were there also, which I guess I should be happy that it wasn't like this other bag I saw on the trolley today; wow!
Ah, but it's not only happening to me. My wife's luggage was lost coming home a couple of weeks ago, and she was on US Air, and a few years ago her luggage was lost when we'd gone to Las Vegas; that was Northwest.
I know these people have a tough job, but come on, pick on someone else. It's a lucky thing I've shown up a day ahead of when I'm expected, but I really do need my bags to show up this evening. Of course all my clothes and toiletries are in there, but so's my medication, my DVD player (which I won't need tonight since the Red Sox game is on), and my external hard drive, which has the powerpoint presentation on it that I'm supposed to be delivering tomorrow night; ugh! That one was a last minute decision to put into the suitcase rather than carry it with me, to avoid those stupid questions by the screeners (what's this; what does it do; how is it used).
Sigh. Oh well, I'm relatively relaxed, if only because of the baseball game and the food I've ordered, plus I'm at a Doubletree, where I got them to give me two cookies. My life is never boring!
