ATKINS DIET

The Atkins diet is again in the news. TheLancet.Com, an independent medical journal from London published has published a Case Report of Doctors which suggested that Atkins Diet should not be recommended for weight loss as one patient developed ketoacidiosis.

Atkins diet (since 1972) prescribes a high protein, high unsaturated fat diet, with low carbohydrates. This looks sensible for overcoming obesity, as the diet is said to produce good results through promoting ketosis.

Ketosis takes place when body starts consuming stored fats, due to shortage of carbohydrates. High carbohydrate diet leads to production of more insulin, which causes problems like depression. Since low starch diet needs less insulin, it appears that hyper-insulin problems will be few.

Ketoacidiosis results from acidity produced by a high protein diet. Hyper-acidity can cause myriad problems.

(The adjustments to changes of diet look like using a razor blade. While using razor, if we do lightly, hair will not be cut. If we apply more pressure, skin will be cut. Appropriateness may vary from person to person, the type of razor and the blade).

BAGASSE

Bagasse is the fibrous residue left after juice is

extracted from sugar cane or grapes. It is used as raw material in paper industry. Also as fuel for boiling cane juice in sugar mills.

Today's craze in internet is for porno. Nothing else stimulates people so much.

One Telugu poet compared a prostitute to bagasse. He says: Paramours desiring intercourse with prostitutes are like ants surrounding bagasse. His idea is obvious. But, he does not realise that prostitutes are also women, they have hearts or souls and that they have been forced to enter a profession due to factors beyond their control. Compassion and empathy would have been more assuaging.

CEMENT: OPPORTUNITIES TO SELL TO INDIA

Cement prices are spiralling in India. A 50 kg. pack costs Rs. 200 or approx. USD 4. Summer is the construction season. From December to July, this demand will continue. Deliveries should take place before July because once monsoons pickup construction will come to a halt.

Indian Cities are expanding very fast. The boom in construction is due to massive expansion of housing finance.

Cement Manufacturers jack up prices every summer by forming a cartel.

Due to globalisation, there are no restrictions on import of Cement into India. The Sea Ports have good unloading equipment and facilities. Indenting, Clearing, Forwarding Agents operate in port Cities.

One hitch is high transportation cost of Cement.

DONKEYS ARE RESPECTABLE
Donkey is a respectable animal. It carries a donkey's load and does not expect special diet.
Democratic Party's symbol.

Some tribes use donkey's milk and meat as medicine. Donkey's urine and excreta are also used, but the very idea is obnoxious.

Donkey's milk is thin, like mother's milk. According to ancient books, donkey's milk cures problems of urinary bladder, sperm.

In Indian hilly areas, donkey's carry electronic voting machines to the polling stations. Probably for that reason, democracy sometimes behaves like an ass.
