A Very Brief Intro and Look at the Italian Immigration Experience and US History

Yes, I have been in the mood for studying my history. Not American history, although I have been reading up on American history from a number of different sources. There are those who love America, hate America and those who are in the middle. All of them have books out and reading them all and piecing bits together one can get a clear idea of the history of the country. One such item that interested me was the early days of Italian immigration into the United States in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. There was quite a bit of dissimilarity between the immigrants who entered the USA in those eras. The first wave, the Northern Italians, had a lot of money. The later wave of immigrants, the Southern Italians, had very little money and faced a great deal of discrimination and strife as they were fairly unwelcome guests in their new country. Actually, they did not intend to stay in the USA, but rather, they wished to return home after having sved up a bunch of cash that they would not have made other wise had they stayed in the economically challenged Southern Italy.
Now, the history of Italy and the history of immigration from Italy to the United Stated is a fairly interesting piece of history that is sadly not given serious consideration in the world of “Ethnic Studies
