This is a story about a skunk. Not just some ordinary old skunk, but one with its head stuck in a salad dressing jar. It found a cautious saviour in a Michigan police officer.

The trapped skunk apparently wandered into a police station carpark and was spotted by the police officer, who wanted to help, but wasn't too keen on any resistance - spray or whatever.

So, with the aid of a pellet gun used in hunters safety courses, he shot the jar from a distance. It cracked and shattered, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck.

With its head now free, the skunk ran off into the distance to freedom.The police officer watched his progress with a little smile.
