How much is too much? When will our fair citizens wake up and smell the stink of a rotten democracy? Will they wake up at all? Where is our tipping point?
The Bush administration and the majority of the Washington Republican power establishment has been a corrupt, scandal-ridden bunch of rotten criminals for too long. Time and time again, these selfish men of narrow vision have proven their ineptitude, their disinterest in the reparative functions of our democracy, their commitment to the very rich, and their willingness to hold the American people—to say nothing of the rest of the world—hostage to their sordid, childish desires.
These people are undeserving of our support, undeserving of the power that has been delegated to them (were these people truly *elected*? Who could say?) and certainly undeserving of the title “public servant.
In last week’s New Yorker, Hendrik Hertzberg writes “If government is seen as a whore, why not treat her like one? All that remains is to fleece the johns and divide the take.
As these criminals distract us with their tired rhetoric of patriotism and terrorism, they illegally spy on us, pedal government influence to the highest bidder—or just their former business partners—making no effort to use their positions of power for the actual betterment of anyone but their Signature Steak House-eating, Scottish golf course putting, bug exterminating, Duke-Stir captaining, fat friends. If only this were just crazy liberal propaganda that I am spouting, and not, as it were, the truth.
But it is the truth. We are the johns, and we’ve been fleeced like no other. These are the people that raised hell when Bill Clinton got a little freaky with the consenting Monica Lewinsky in the privacy of his own office. The deeds of these Republicans are far worse, tantamount to the rape of our fair ladies Justice and Democracy.
Stop this madness. Stand Up. Be heard. Do something.
