One little known fact in my not-so-distant past was that I used to teach journalism to a bunch of car fanatics. We wanted a specialist journalism programme and the magazines wanted journalists who were well trained but had car knowledge. It took a few months, but we finally came up with a programme we could all live with.

The first year we had three students, not surprising because we promoted the course so late that people couldn't get the money together. The second year was better, with about 12 (it was a Master's programme, so that wasn't too bad for the quality experience we wanted them to have.

We were always looking around for resources to help with teaching. Guest speakers, car mags, web sites - anything that dealt with cars or journalism. So when I came across this Classic Cars Blog by George Lindemann Jr. I thought of them. By now, some of our graduates will be working in car mags, joyfully delving beneath the bonnet of magazine journalism. I had a great time teaching them.
