8 & 9 Year Olds Did What?!?!?

I'm stunned, and I didn't really think it was possible anymore.

This morning, the news I wake up to is, well, shocking. In a town called Acworth, Georgia, 3 young boys, ages 8 & 9, were arrested for raping an 11 year old girl.

I mean, are you kidding me? I never heard the word "rape" until I was 16 years old, and that's when I understood the concept. I never thought about girls like that until I was in my teens. And now this? Man, I'm stunned.

I never even knew 8 & 9 year old boys could even have sex, if you know what I mean. As in, how would they even know what would turn them on? This had to be something one of them saw on TV and got an idea to try; it didn't just pop into their heads. Maybe it was part of a game that one of them was playing and it encouraged them; who really knows.

Anyway, at this juncture all 3 are being held in a youth detention center, and they're supposedly facing adult charges. This should prove to be interesting legally. I mean, one, all are under age 10; most states say children can't be charged as adults until they're at least 10 when they commit the crime. Also, their names haven't been released yet, but most news organizations will release names of children who commit crimes if they're charged as adults. And, because they were a gang, so to speak, rape isn't the only charge; add sexual assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment to the list.

I'm still literally stunned; I know it's been a long time since I was a kid, and I've never had any kids, so someone tell me if I should really be stunned, or if this is literally possible from any child in today's world. Well, obviously it's possible since it's happened, but you know what I mean.

It's so hard to say

but, it's been going on for a long time now that kids are developing sooner and sooner. It's actually too common now that 11 yr old girls are fertile enough to become pregnant. So, it makes sense that it's the same for boys.
What I see in cases like this is they must have been taught the anger and abuse that goes with this type of crime. Rape is never about sex, as we all know. So, somewhere they learned that to rape is to strip the victim of power and to do harm.

I'm flabbergasted. I didn't even know little boys that age could get an erection! But what has me cringing is that, as Spooky said, children this age could be capable of expressing such rage and anger and also be capable of taking it out on another human in such a drastic manner.

It seems every day brings me new reason to be terrified of what the future holds for our children.

i am honestly at a loss for words. i am disturbed, disgusted, shocked.....what is this world coming to. this kind of stuff makes me want to keep my kids in a bubble. you not only have to pedophiles to contend with but now other kids as well? what is this????????

It's all over the news here in Ga. The father of one of the boys claims it was "consensual"...The first thing I thought of when I heard him say that was "Now I know where this kid gets his ideas"...my guess is that it's a bit of everything....I think it may have been a game of some sort that went terribly wrong...she got hurt and had to say something to her parents...they got outraged and VOILA. If on the other hand they lured her into getting raped and it was pre-meditated, then my guess would be that this is something that happened to one or more of them too. And if it didn't actually happen to them then they had to have witnessed it happening to someone like their own mother etc. I feel sorry for all the kids here...and if I were a parent of one of these boys I would want to check out the other parents with a fine tooth comb.

in thinking that the father needs to examine his own self when looking at this one, though, I guess a parent will go to any lengths to protect their own child. This one is just freaky as sin; as I said, I had no idea what sex was at age 8, though I remember reading a book from way back when I was in high school where one of the main characters was 8 years old and kept having sex with his mother; have no idea what that book was at this juncture (I didn't read it in school; it was a paperback in a drug store). I just happened to think about this, so now I at least can imagine a child at that age having sex; rape is still another thing.

Course, my thinking is that there would probably be more marks on the girl if it weren't consensual, such as bruises elsewhere on the body, since rape is a physical crime. Consensual or not, it's still quite a shocking story.
